Welcome to the home page for the 'Tour de Chiddingly' 2022
On Saturday 17 September 2022, the first ever Tour de Chiddingly will take place. The event starts at 11.00am in the car park of the Village Shop in Muddles Green. Despite its name, the Tour de Chiddingly is not a race – rather, it is a community cycling event aimed at individuals and families. The main objective is to encourage everyone to get out on their bikes. This includes both regular cyclists, and children and adults who are less experienced. Through the Tour, and similar events, we hope to encourage everyone in the village to make walking or cycling their first choice for shorter journeys.
The Tour de Chiddingly will include two circular routes (see Route Map below). A shorter (~3 mile) route, aimed primarily at children and less experienced cyclists, will take in the sights of Scrapers Hill, Smithlands Lane, Honeywick Lane and Parsonage Lane, before returning through Chiddingly to Muddles Green. A longer (~6 mile) route will set out along Scrapers Hill and Smithlands Lane but continue to Stalkers Lane and Ailies Lane before returning to Chiddingly and Muddles Green.

REGISTER NOW!
If you would like to participate in the Tour de Chiddingly, please register your interest by sending an email to [email protected]. Your message should include the names of all those intending to take part. This information will help us know how many participants to expect on the day.
Children and young adults are very welcome to take part. Those aged between 13 and 18 can cycle unaccompanied. However, children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. To comply with the terms of the public liability insurance for the event, we ask that you complete a parental consent form for each young person under the age of 18. The form can be downloaded in editable Microsoft Word or printable PDF format. You can bring along a signed copy of the form on the day, but we would prefer it if you emailed an electronic version to [email protected].
We advise you to check that your bike is in full working order and that each participant has a cycling helmet and item of hi-vis clothing for safety. A risk assessment for the event can be downloaded here.

On the day of the event
Registration opens at 11.00am. We request a minimum donation of £1 for every participant, to be collected at registration. This is to help cover the cost of public liability insurance. We will be collecting names and a mobile phone number for each participant so that we can contact you in the unlikely event of an emergency. We will also collect any printed parental consent forms.
Following a short safety briefing, participants will set off in two groups. The two routes will be clearly sign-posted by green (short route) and blue (long route) arrows. It should take no more than an hour to complete the longer route. We ask that everyone returns to the car park and signs back in at the registration desk when they have finished their route. A back-up vehicle will be available on the day in the event of any mechanical failure. To meet GDPR requirements, all registration sheets and parental consent forms will be destroyed after the event.
The Village Shop will be open for pre- and post-ride refreshments. The ride will be followed by a barbeque hosted by the Village Shop (from 12.00-15:00), as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations. We hope you will be able to stay for this.
