Welcome to the home page for the 'Tour de Chiddingly' 2023
The second Tour de Chiddingly will take place on Saturday 16 September 2023. The event starts at 11.00am at the Six Bells pub (Chiddingly BN8 6HT) and will include a choice of two circular routes of 6 or 13 miles (see Route Maps below).
Despite its name, the Tour is not a race – rather, it is a community cycling event aimed at individuals and families. The aim is to encourage everyone to get out on their bikes, including regular cyclists and children and adults who are less experienced. Through the Tour, we hope to encourage everyone in the village to make walking or cycling their first choice for shorter journeys. Last year's event attracted 50 riders - have a read of our blog post.

REGISTER NOW!
If you would like to take part in the Tour de Chiddingly, please register your interest by sending an email to [email protected]. Your message should include (a) the names of all those in your group, and (b) which of the two routes you wish to follow. This information will help us plan the day.
Children and young adults are very welcome. Those aged between 13 and 18 can cycle unaccompanied. However, children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. To comply with the terms of our public liability insurance, we ask that you complete a parental consent form for each young person under the age of 18. The form can be downloaded in editable Microsoft Word or printable PDF format. You can bring along a signed copy of the form on the day, but we would prefer it if you emailed an electronic version to [email protected].
Please ensure that your bike is in full working order and that each participant has a cycle helmet and item of hi-vis clothing for safety. A risk assessment for the event is available here.

On the day of the event
Registration opens from 10:30am. We request a minimum donation of £2 for every adult and £1 for every child or young adult, to be collected at registration. This is to help cover the cost of public liability insurance. We will be collecting names and a mobile phone number for each participant so that we can contact you in the unlikely event of an emergency. We will also collect any printed parental consent forms.
Following a short safety briefing, participants will set off in two groups shortly after 11:00. The two routes will be clearly sign-posted by gold arrows for the short route and blue arrows for the long route. It should take just over an hour to complete the longer route. We ask that everyone returns to the Six Bells and signs back in at the registration desk when they have finished their route. A back-up vehicle will be available on the day in the event of any mechanical failure. To meet GDPR requirements, all registration sheets and parental consent forms will be destroyed after the event.
The Six Bells will be open for post-ride food and refreshments. We hope that you will be able to stay around for a chat.
